Heartbreak as SA beat Mighty Warriors to win final

South Africa scored in first and second half injury time to win the Cosafa Women’s Championship final 2-1 against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.

Leandra Smeda scored one and created the other in a match watched a by a packed Barbourfields Stadium.

A minute into first half injury time on the board Smeda’s defence splitting pass found Thembi Kgatlana who outsprinted her marker making no mistake to take the lead.

By that timeĀ  SA had made all the chances and should really have been out of sight.

Zimbabwe pulled their goal back in the 73rd minute with goal machine Rutendo Makore rising to head the ball in for her 10th goal of the competition. She ended the tournament as the top goal scorer.

Then with the match looking like it was heading for penalties, Zimbabwe were caught napping again and Smeda headed the winner as Banyana Banyana were deservedly crowned champions.
