The players are Joel Matip (Liverpool), Andre Onana (Ajax Amsterdam), Guy N’dy Assembe (Nancy), Maxime Poundje (Girondins Bordeaux), Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa (Olympique Marseille) and Ibrahim Amadou (Lille) all of whom have been named in a provisional 35-man squad.

Matip did not want to play for Cameroon for the moment because of a “bad experience” with the previous coaching staff, the statement said.

Cameroon’s football federation (Fecafoot) could ask Fifa to ban the players from playing for their clubs throughout the duration of the tournament which ends on 6 February.

Zimbabwe play Cameroon on in a friendly in Yaounde on 10 January as part of preparations for the Afcon finals before both teams cart off to Gabon.
