Twitter gives you more control to deal with trolls
Twitter has introduced new features to improve your experience in the wake of incessant trolls on the platform.
Having been accused of doing little to nothing to deal with cyber bullying and harassment the new features allow you decide what you get notified about and what you see.
First the notifications. Before you got notifications from anyone who tried to interact with you whether they followed you or not. There is a change:
Everyone will have the ability to limit notifications to only people they follow on mobile and on twitter.com. Simply turn it on if you want to give it a go. If not, no worries – your individual Twitter experience will continue unchanged.
That means people will not be able to troll you once you activate this feature. Unless you followers a troll, of course, then well, you might want to reexamine your choices in life.
Then there is the quality filter:
When turned on, the filter can improve the quality of Tweets you see by using a variety of signals, such as account origin and behavior. Turning it on filters lower-quality content, like duplicate Tweets or content that appears to be automated, from your notifications and other parts of your Twitter experience. It does not filter content from people you follow or accounts you’ve recently interacted with – and depending on your preferences, you can turn it on or off in your notifications settings.
While trolls will always find ways round, at least Twitter is trying to do something about the problem.
