Company Targets ‘Porn Pirates’

When talking about piracy, one rarely mentions the illegal copying or downloading of pornographic movies.

Now Ben Dover Productions which produces pornographic movies has won a High Court appeal to send over 2,000 O2 subscribers in theUK who are deemed guilty of copyright infringement. Its parent company Golden Eye has not ruled out going after other ISPs.

The letters will seek compensation on a case by case basis. Originally they were going to ask got a flat 700 pounds penalty but the judge was having none of it. What is not clear is if the bill holder is the one who will play if they claim someone else used their link to download porn.

It will look funny if one of those claims goes to Reverend someone who preaches against such things. If course such a bill would go through the church treasury and Reverend someone will have some explaining to do.

What would be interesting would be if something of that sort happened here. It would have interesting results. Officially noone views pornography in this country because it is illegal. However we know the tech-geeks spend hours in the server room looking at the latest hardcore material they can find.

In fact there are a lot of underground porn merchants that can be found at places like Fife Avenue shopping centre or the service stations near Holiday Inn in Harare. They must be getting it from somewhere.

However, we can’t remember any time that anyone was arrested and thrown in jail for possession of pornography. Of course there is the case of that porn vendor who bit a cop, but that is few and far between.

For those who have it, we are sure they do not have rights to those movies. Unless of course they made them…
