Zimbabwe Cricket to come down on racist, abusive chants by fans
Zimbabwe Cricket has released a strongly worded statement warning sanctions against fans who use abusive racist chants.
What is even more disconcerting is that this has emanated from behaviour targeted at Zimbabwe players by their own fans during the just-ended Sri Lanka at Harare Sports Club.
Bloody pill0cks. Crude behaviour is never acceptable and even weirder when you abuse your own players. Like abusing them will make them feel better about playing for you.
ZC was unequivocal in its statement against abuse.
ZC strictly upholds the ICC Anti-Racism Code that confirms a level of commitment from the ICC and its members to promote and encourage participation at all levels regardless of race, colour, religion, national or ethnic origin and to ensure that there is no discrimination in the sport.
The ICC code also requires members to impose punishments including life bans on anyone found guilty of racial abuse.
In this sense, ZC warns that it is taking steps to introduce sanctions against those involved in such incidents.
So weird. We hope that this will serve as a warning and that if it happens action will be taken.
