SuperSport, Zim PSL end broadcast rights agreement
The Zimbabwe Premier Socer League announced the end of the the broadcast deal.
The five year deal ended in 2017 and has now opened up to tenders for rights for the country’s top league. The deal was signed in 2012.
While many had argued that the deal was undervalued, Kenny Ndebele in the press statement said the deal had ‘exposed the Premier Soccer League and its commercial partners to millions of viewers across the African continent.”
He added that platform provided a wider audience for players adding that employment and training was provided for local crew members.
The news should come as a boost to the fortunes for rival broadcaster Kwese who have been hungrily hunting down content properties.
Whether they get this or not remains to be seen.
