Ireland hold off plucky Zimbabwe to take series to final match
Ireland women were made to sweat for their 12 run victory over Zimbabwe in a one-day match at the Newlands Country Club in Harare on Saturday.
Ireland won the toss and chose to bat and at 35-4 it looked like it would be a disaster of epic proportion.
But Isobel Joyce and Rachel Delaney combined for a 168 run partnership in which they scored 91* and and 68 respectively setting a big score of 207/5.
Opener Modester Mupachikwa started off with great intent and for long periods her 51 came at a pace of more than a run-a-ball.
The dependable Chipo Mugeri was only able to to contribute 4 to the scoreline.
Little partnerships were put together throughout the innings but all too often, wickets were lost at the wrong moments. The middle order had Precious Marange (27) and Mary-Anne Musonda (30) giving the team some hope of getting to the score.
The run rate was never a problem and even as Nomvelo Sibanda was run out with the last ball of the 46th over it was still four an over needed.
The final match is on Monday, this time at St Georges High School in Harare.
