Chidzambwa bags CHAN assignment after regional win
Three-time Cosafa Cup title winning coaches Sunday Chidzambwa has been rewarded with a further Zimbabwe national team after he and his assistants were appointed for the African Championship Nations (CHAN) kicking off this weekend.
The ZPC Kariba gaffer together with Dynamos tactician Lloyd Mutasa and Bongani Mafu led the Warriors to a history making fifth title with a 3-1 win over Zambia on Sunday.
ZIFA and COSAFA president, Dr Phillip Chiyangwa made the announcement, saying it was in the interest of continuity that the appointment had been made.
The Warriors face Namibia in the first leg on July 16 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.
The CHAN finals are in Kenya in 2018.
CHAN is played between the best national teams of Africa, exclusively featuring players who are active in the national championships and qualified to play in the ongoing season. Expatriate players, regardless of where they play, even in Africa, are not qualified to take part in the African Championship of Nations.
At this rate, could Chidzambwa end up as the coach of all national assignments, given FC Platinum’s reluctance to release Norman Mapeza?
