AFCON WARMUP: Zimbabwe earn draw in Cameroon

Zimbabwe battled to a 1-1 draw against Cameroon in the final warm-up match before the Africa Cup of Nations 2017 finals which kick off this weekend.

Zimbabwe were impressive for periods in the first half and went ahead through Orlando Pirates striker Tendai Ndoro in the 14th minute. The hosts leveled with a Benjamin Moukandjo penalty in the 28th minute.

In the second half Kalisto Pasuwa’s boys had to put on a fighting performance as the Indomitable Lions put on wave after wave of attack. In reality a lot of came down to the Warriors losing the ball easily every time they attempted to go forward inviting pressure onto themselves. When they did put together some offensive play at the end they produced chances for Nyasha Mushekwei, whose miss was probably as shocking his teammates as to the opponents and Khama Billiat whose shot from range tested the Cameroon keeper.

Special must be made to goalkeeper Tatenda Mukuruva who made vital saves and interceptions to make sure his side did not go into their opening match Algeria with a loss. He was decisive and positioned well when his defence was breached.

Zimbabwe proceed to Cameroon on Wednesday.
