Biti Will Never Challenge Tsvangirai; Speaks Glowingly Of Mugabe
MDC-T Secretary-General Tendai Biti has moved to quash rumours of him going after party president Morgan Tsvangirai’s position and has described President Robert Mugabe as ‘Zimbabwe itself’
Biti, who is Finance Minister in the inclusive government said he would never challenge Tsvangirai, Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister, adding that he had a very good relationship with his boss. Media, in particular the Zimbabwe Independent has been reporting of a bad relationship between the two with speculation that he had neutralised some of of Tsvangirai’s closest advisors.
Then in a statement that took many by surprise, Biti said this of ZANU-PF leader Mugabe, according the Zimbabwe Mail:
History will prove the correctness of this statement. He has been the number one symbol of stability… We, the younger generation, are lucky to have gone through his hands. We find counsel and wisdom in him.
His importance in this country will be seen once he is gone. When he is gone, that is when you will see that this man was Zimbabwe. Some of us who came from different parties have had to learn a lot from the man.
While this may come as a surprise to many at first glance, while some may have differences with President Mugabe, very few lack admiration for his skill as a politician and all-round wisdom.
