Zimbabwe Bans Traffic Spot Fines

Zimbabwe has moved to ban the unpopular spot fines imposed on motorists by he police, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has told the Senate.

He also said that there would be a reduction in the number of roadblocks which some have seen as  something of a nuisance at the moment.

Going forward road users will be issued with a ticket, and a payment shall be made against it at the nearest police station. The spot fines had been open to abuse with motorists saying that they were taking what the police said were the fines on face value. Also it made coming across a road block something of a horrid experience if one did not have cash on them.

Nothing was said about how the other ‘spot fine’ was going to stopped.
