Striking Miners Killed in Lonmin Shoot-out [VIDEO]
As many as 30 people are feared dead in a shoot-out between police and striking miners near Lonmin, South Africa.
The police had attempted to disperse striking miners near Lonmin but were met with gunfire. 30 people were killed in about 3 minutes of shootouts.
In a scene reminiscent of apartheid times, the strikers were wielding pangas and chanting war songs. The police fired teargas and the miners retaliated with live ammunition.
The government has not issued a statement on the matter.
Violent protests are believed to be linked to rivalry between the National Union of Mineworkers and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union over recognition agreements at the mine.
Check out the new eNCA video showing the shooting below. Please note that the video is pretty graphic.
