Roy Bennett, wife die in helicopter crash in the US

Former MDC-T treasure Roy Bennett and his wife Heather have died in helicopter crash in New Mexico, US.

The news was confirmed by police in that region according to the New York Times.

Four other people died in the crash while a single person died. The survivor alerted authorities of the crash.

The helicopter went down in a mountainous rural area of New Mexico around 6pm on Thursday night. The point was about 24km east of the small city of Raton near the Colorado state line.

He was 60.

News of the death filtered through to Zimbabwe when MDC legal secretary David Coltart tweeted about it.

MDC-T vice president Nelson Chamisa spoke of being devastated following the news of Bennett’s death.

Bennett, a former Member of Parliament for Chimanimani famously had an altercation in the House of Assembly with Zanu-Pf’s Patrick Chinamasa in 2004.

Bennett left the MDC-T after the loss in the 2013 harmonised elections.
