Porn Reduces Sexual Violence

A new study has just given porn watchers a reason to feel normal.

Scientific American ran an article on a study that claims that porn can actually lead to reduced propensity for sexual violence.

Yes that is right. If you spend time staring at smut you are less likely to engage in sexual violence than someone who abstains from it.

And the finding is that:

Pornography seems to be protective,… perhaps because exposure correlates with lower levels of sexual repression, a potential rape risk factor.

Several studies have also shown that porn has become more available, rape cases have fallen. This was more so in areas where Internet connection was widespread. It also added that rape was at its lowest in the US since the 1960s.

It also turned out that the amount of porn one consumed did not have any bearing on the traditional assertion that porn resulted in sexism and a skewed sexual expectation.

There’s absolutely no evidence that pornography does anything negative. It’s a moral issue, not a factual issue.

So essentially the position on porn is more of a personal one than one that is based on fact.

Of course in a few years some other geek in a white coat is going to tell us otherwise. Until then smut away…
