Nelson Chamisa appointed Acting President of MDC for one year
The MDC National Council has moved to appoint the youthful Advocate Nelson Chamisa as president of the MDC Alliance following the death of its founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai on Wednesday.
Chamisa will hold the position for one year pending congress and as it looks will stand as the Alliance’s presidential candidate for the harmonised elections later this year.
Having just turned 40 a few weeks ago, Chamisa is eligible to stand for the highest office in the land.
Chamisa holds impressive credentials having served as Youth Assembly Chairperson of the party and rising through the ranks. Under the inclusive government he was the Minister of Information Communication Technology.
Whether this move will deal with infighting that has seen supporters of camps pushing for the other two vice presidents Thokozani Khupe and Engineer Elias Mudzuri to angle for office remains to be seen.
