High Court nixes O Level English Paper 2 rewriting
Zimbabwe’s High Court has said students will not have to rewrite the November Ordinary Level English Paper 2, reversing a directive by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education for them to do so.
Justice Loice Matanda Moyo sitting with Justice Priscilla Munangati-Manongwa instead ruled that the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council must grade students based on English Paper 1.
Justice Matanda Moyo also said heads must roll at Zimsec and that the system needed an overhaul because of the repeated bungling.
The case had been brought before the two Harare parents challenged the order by the Education minister Paul Mavima to have students rewrite the paper over widespread cheating, a decision that proved unpopular.
