Former FIFA Presidential Candidate Banned For Life For Bribery

FIFA has handed a life ban to Mohamed Bin Hammam after finding him guilty of bribery.

Bin Hamman is the most senior FIFA official to be found guilty and banned by the world  governing body. The Qatari  refused to cooperate with the investigation and was not present at the hearing.

Bin Hamman who is also the president of the Asian Football Confederation said he had expected a guilty verdict but was going to appeal.

What remains to be seen in this case is whether this will affect FIFA’s  controversial decision  to award the 2022  World Cup to Qatar.

His suspension comes at a time when the beautiful game is in crisis. Widespread allegations of bribery and match-fixing some of which have involved Zimbabwean players and officials have rocked it to its core.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter promised to clean up the game when he was re-elected and so far it seems as if he is delivering.
