Crocodile kills tourist in Matopos

A crocodile has attacked and killed a tourist at Matopos National Park, the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority  has confirmed.

Parks spokesperson, Tinashe Farawo was quoted as naming the victim as Josh Bowman and said a second tourist Rosemary Mitchell had been injured in the incident at Mpopoma Dam where they were paddling.

The incident took place on Sunday.

There has been a relative frequency in incidents involving wild animals and humans in recent years, a lot of put down to getting too close to the animals, which tend to be dangerous. Farawo also added that Bowman and Mitchell were using using air pumped boats which were not permissible.

Mitchell is in the intensive care unit of a Bulawayo hospital.
