Possible link between low fat diet and infertility
A new link from a study over 20 years may link low fertility in women and low-fat diet.
US academic, Rose Frisch of Harvard University says that the women will still have regular periods and are not anorexic.
In her book Female Fertility and the Body Fat Connection, says that body fat provides the energy for reproduction. Falling below the threshold will restrict the flow of a hormone vital for reproduction.
She added that there is a thin line between the weight at which one may not be able to produce and when one can. And one cannot simply gain weight if they want to give birth. In effect there is a point one can no longer be fertile after prolonged periods of being underweight.
