Speak Out, Padare combine for 16 Days of Activism 2016 campaign

Two Zimbabwean organisations have combined to put together an intensive campaign for the 16 days of activism against gender based violence which runs from 25 November to 10 December.

The two organisations, Padare/ Enkundleni/Men’s Forum on Gender and Speak Out/Handinyare (a non-profit making organization focused on eliminating domestic violence through awareness campaigns carried out in creative skills in creative spaces)  have decided to collaborate and run activities for 16 days with a focus on men and boys as a primary target and women and girls as a secondary target making a statement to show unity against gender based violence.

The running themes will be divided as follows:

This campaign will run as an online drive through social media platforms

The aim is to get 100 000 men and boys across all social, political, religious and cultural divides to come together during the 16 Days and stand in solidarity against domestic violence and GBV by painting their fingers or a finger orange and posting online a picture of themselves with their orange finger nails and the statement under their nail and face would be or something in the lines of :

 “I would rather paint my hand orange and raise it against domestic violence rather than raise this very hand to harm a woman or girl child”      #RealMenNailItZw

Personalities like Captain Awesome, Larry Kwirirayi, Rabson Shumba, Tonderai Katsande, Tytan, So Profound among others have taken part.

The aim is to get as many women across all social, political, religious and cultural divides to       band together during the 16 Days and stand in solidarity against domestic violence by painting their fingers or a finger orange and posting online a picture of themselves with their orange finger nails and state:

Hot Water Bottle theatre performance

Tinopona Katsande will perform her critical acclaimed classic one woman play, Hot Water Bottle,  at Theatre in The Park on Wednesday 7 November to Friday 10 December 2016.
