NewsDay photojournalist Tafadzwa Ufumeli lands top prize

NewsDay photojournalist Tafadzwa Ufumeli is the winner of the Ian Parry Scholarship 2017 Award for Potential.

This was for a collection called The Pursuit of Regime Change:

A documentation of clashes between anti-riot police and protesters over increasing roadblocks in the Epworth suburb of the south-eastern Harare province in Zimbabwe.

Ufumeli receives

  • US$3,500,
  • a year-long mentorship with 1998 Ian Parry alumnus and established British photographer Simon Roberts
  • equipment from Canon and
  • exhibition of his work in London.

The Ian Parry Scholarship pays tribute Ian Parry, a photojournalist who was killed whilst covering the downfall of the Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu at the age of 24.
