“Mgqumeni” Impersonator Tries To Escape
There was drama at the Nquthu Magistrate court in northern KwaZulu-Natal, as the man accused of impersonating Maskandi musician Kwakhe “Mgqumeni” Khumalo tried to escape.
Thousands of people in Khumalo’s rural eastern home village of Esiggumeni, turned out to see the man at the weekend. Riot police with truncheons and water cannons were deployed to keep the crowd under control.
The accused jumped two rows of seats to escape from the court. Police recaptured and handcuffed him.
Meanwhile, his previous legal representative announced that he is withdrawing from representing the accused and attorney Johan Botha now represents him. The case has be adjourned to the 22nd of this month.
