Harare Gardener Wins Lotto
Witness Office, a Harare gardeners received a cool US$146 930 for winning the Lotto last week.
Witness Office, who has been a gardener for more than two decades, appeared undaunted by the whole affair and even during a ceremony held at the Mashonaland Turf Club offices at Borrowdale Racecourse he remained rather calm throughout the award event.
Mr Office used US$1 and chose the six winning numbers using a complex method that he has developed over the years; he also claims he had never won anything since 2005.
Mr Office, is said to be in his 60s, came to Zimbabwe from Malawi before independence. He currently stays with his wife, while his two children are in Malawi. In his spare time, he spends time with friends in Mbare.
He indicated that he was not going to abandon his work a sentiment he expressed by saying-
“Of course I have won some money, but that is no reason for me to leave my current source of income. The people I work for have money in their accounts, but they still go to work”
Considering that 1 in 3 lottery winners find themselves in serious financial trouble or even bankrupt within 5 years, deciding to keep his day job is a wise idea.
