America Eyes Africa

The trip of U.S. Secretary of Hillary Clinton of West Africa shows just how serious the United States seems on asserting itself on Africa.

Clinton visited Liberia, Ivory Coast, Togo, and Cape Verde in only two days. Official statements say that the trip was meant to encourage African governments to continue with democratic and economic reforms. What that exactly means we are not sure.

Some people feel that the revived interest in Africa by America is meant to counter growing Chinese influence in most African countries. China has been aggressive at improving relations with African countries and the Americans might be feeling the heat of the competition for trade and diplomatic relations.
