About That Picture Of A Drowned Baby Doing The Rounds On Social Media

So a picture of a baby who drowned in the devastating floods in Mashonaland West has been doing the rounds on social media.

The baby is one of eight people  who drowned in the Ngwazani River when the driver tried to cross a flooded river.

In another incident, two people died when they drowned in the Angwa River while six others were left stranded on an island.

Our hearts go out to all those affected.

What has irked us is the photo of the drowned baby doing the rounds on Facebook and Twitter.

We know we have become an exceedingly voyeuristic society and all bu pictures of dead babies are just frowned upon. It’s unethical, completely unhelpful and reek of moral decay.

Ethics like Jay Shepherd said is knowing the right thing but doing the wrong thing. You know that sharing picture is wrong but you do it anyway.

Stop sharing, retweeting or whatever. Stop it.

Freedom of expression is not an excuse to be abusive, without a conscience and devoid of compassion.  It comes with a responsibility.
