Zimbabwe Fashion Week Explodes To Life Tonight

From the 30th of August to the 1st of September, Zimbabwe Fashion Week will be taking place at 16 – 20 Samora Machel Avenue at the VW Showroom.

Before you start thinking how “un-3mob” fashion is or seem to think fashion does not interest you, please take a moment to hear us out before dismissing it.

Zimbabwe Fashion Week showcases different fashion designers from Zimbabwe and from the international scene. This year is promising to be very interesting with the musical performances from highly talented individuals. For the opening night Toya Delazy, a Zulu singer-songwriter from KwaZulu-Natal South Africa will entertain the crowd (do fashionistas like being called a crowd?).  She is the one with that single “Pump It On” which is popular on the Zimbabwean radio airwaves which we expect her to perform. Toya Delazy’s musical influences lie somewhere between Hip Hop, Electro, Alternative and Pop. For the closing night our very own Zimbabwean Twitter personality RutendoDenise and Raffi, will also performing their debut single “Munyepi”. Munyepi is a mixture of spoken word, Rhythm and Blues, with a very organic Mbira instrument rhythm.

The presence of new talent in the form of the arts makes HIFA fanatics feel at home as they get the opportunity to experience music alongside fashion that has a message. Zimbabwe Fashion Week 2012 just expanded access to local designers and  artists.

The highlight of the international designers who will also be showcasing at the event, is South African David Tlale. The Zimbabwean designers are  Yvonne Watadza, Terrance Chipembere, Joyce Chimanye, Colin Ratisai, Alice Knuth, Sibonile Chimanikire, Sabina Mutsvati, Rumbidzai Ngwarai, Melusi Nhengu, Intisaar Mukadam, Bisma Ahmed and Maita Marimo.
