ZIFF, IIFF combine for joint film festival this year
The 16th edition of the International Images Film Festival for Women (IIFF) will combine with the 19th edition of the Zimbabwe International Film Festival (ZIFF) for a cinematic collaboration this year.
The announcement was made in a communication signed by ZIFF Executive Director Nigel Munyati and IIFF trainee festival director Laura Ganda and was described in the joint statement as a progressive step to facilitate cohesive and sustainable growth in the film sector.
The statement adds:
The resultant synergy will offer the most diverse Festival for audiences as the two combine their strengths to create a platform for excellence in film, advocacy, value addition, and engagement among the various stakeholders.
IIFF is the flagship event of Women Filmmakers of Zimbabwe (WFOZ). WFOZ is the women’s department of the Institute of Creative Arts for Progress in Africa (ICAPA) Trust.
The two have been traditionally separate events and we think this move makes sense as the local film industry needs as much shoring up as possible to be effective after the contraction of last couple of decades.
Both events hold powerful workshops and it is expected these will continue and a joint festival will create a bigger reach for them.
The joint festival will take place from 26 August to 2 September 2017.
