New Sitcom To Hit Zimbabwe’s Streets
A new sitcom is set to hit Zimbabwe’s streets this year.
Titled Salon.Com, it is set in a… well you guessed right, salon and is a take in the goings-on in one of the most vibrant environments in Zimbabwe.
Staring in the sitcom which is written and directed by international award winning filmmaker Joe Njagu(he did The Gentleman) are Eunice Tava (Heaven’S Diary),Nama award winner Nothando Nobengula (Ten Bush),rising comedians Michael Kudakwashe and Teddy Mangava who were blended with the magic of local film stars Dalma Chiwereva (Lobola) ,Chati Butau (Gringo The Movie) with old day television faces Spilisiwe Kekani (Nzungu muriva) and Memory Bususu (Pfumayenhaka). It is produced by Batsirai Masvinge.
How will it be distributed? This is innovation. Through a partnership with sponsor, DanTs Media the publishers of Jewel Magazine (Daniel and Tsitsi Mutendi are Executive Producers), 20,000 copies of the circular will contain a DVD and on it 4 episodes each. After that they will be released on the street model DVD plan which was successfully used on The Gentleman‘s distribution. Throw in some piracy and the reach is pretty huge, an impressive 100,000 and above. After that the sitcom will be taken to European and African circuit for Zimbabweans in the diaspora.
According to the presser, Salon.Com which is pretty much the Friends of Zimbabwe(for the kids, Friends is like How I Met Your Mother but revolving around a coffee shop. It was cool in the 90s). The quality of production as seen in the stills is pretty good. Also they plan to make sure the cast is fully employed and is paid every single month.
We are pretty amped. So get ready for, Salon.Com.
