Inaugural poetry convention is on next weekend

The first Say Samthin’ Poetry and Spoken Word Convention is on this 18 November 2017 on th 14th floor of Joina Centre in Harare.

The concept note says that it is ‘birthed from the backdrop that poetry and spoken word have been dormant in Zimbabwe for quite a while now’. It adds that debates are often about how effective the art form is and its relevance and thus this convention ‘is designed to bring together practitioners of the art form’.

So in that regard the convention will present ideas and initiate dialogue around poetry in three parts.

  • The morning between 10am and 12 noon has a conference titled Think Next, and will have four keynote speakers.
  • The afternoon, 2-4pm, has a poetry slam and the winner gets a slotĀ  on the National Poetry Slam to be hosted in Bulawayo on 25 November.
  • The evening, 6-9pm, is a concert, the main event featuring the best local poets and musicians. headlined by Bitter Sweet Poetry from Zambia

The investment is $10 which gives you all day access.
