UPDATED: Harare Mayor delays Moto Republik demolition by one week
In an astounding move Harare Municipal Police were On Thursday morning at the city’s new home for creatives Moto Republik under a directive to tear the place down as an illegal structure.
Harare mayor Bernard Manyenyeni had to rush to the premises to try to prevent the action as well as trying to find out who gave the directive.
The move is not only shocking in as far Harare’s general blas’e attitude towards creative spaces in Zimbabwe but also given that Moto Republik is now a co-working space of importance providing employment, this is poor form.
In its 20 months or so of operation it has played host to important events and executions for the creative community.
