Could Shasha be the next big thing in Zimbabwe?
Blindfaith Studio’s formidable doyenne-in-the-making Shasha has come good on the hype following her performance at Harare International Festival of Arts.
At a young age, the Mutare-based singer has seen her star rise in the country- so much she swung her set at the ZOL Main Stage on Sunday afternoon. Supporting her were producer Young Nash, collaborator Jazz Prosper, Dj T-Bass and The Stone Cold Band.
We’ve been sneaking a peak into her career as a performer since her debut, but nothing has really opened our eyes (and our hearts) as much as her HIFA set. It was one of the best we’ve seen from female entertainers in years, from someone who’s neither Ammara nor Bev.
With her exquisite features and melodic voice – its power is in her performance – she was able to win over acclaim from the audience which attended her show. Although, most of the songs she performed were not familiar, her energy and impression was, which explains why legendary producers like Dj Maphorisa and Audius have been working with her.
Now, the question many are posing is could she be the next big thing is Zimbabwean pop music? And say her sugary songwriting and racy performance skills can catapult her to commercial zenith, but is she ready? Can she surpass the current queens of perfomance with her flair?
Time will tell.
