Comedy Night Sets Shoko Festival Alight

A full house at Shoko Festival’s Comedy Night on Wednesday at Alliance Francaise will have the organisers optimistic about the success of the 6-day party.

Zambezi News, Carl Joshua Ncube, Clive Chigubhu and legendary South African comic John Vlismas had the crowd in stitches for over two hours.

Vlismas was obviously going to crack ribs and it was up to the locals to come in with their game face on. Zambezi News, who were described by Vlismas as ‘brave’ had to do without Michael K who is out in Bulawayo at the Intwasa Festival. Ncube with his tuxedo was hilarious while, Chigubhu, who was a bit more nervous than usual but did enough to keep the crowd entertained. Host Nqobizitha ‘Q The Boss’ Siziba-Dube kept the clock ticking with some good punchlines.

John Vlismas live on stage at Shoko Festival

It was Vlismas who had the crowd gasping for breath with his politically incorrect social commentary. The comics were taking notes, we hope, because he went in and went hard. He made fun of everyone from himself, whites, blacks, Indians, South Africans, Zimbabweans, old people, little children, animals et al.

On the whole it was a good night out and a huge endorsement for the fast-growing comedy industry in Zimbabwe.

Tonight it’s International Poetry Slam at the Book Cafe. We will tell you about that tomorrow.
