The United States ambassador to Kenya has quit very suddenly over differences with Washington concerning his style of leadership and priorities.
Scott Gration departs a week after the US embassy warned of an imminent attack on Mombasa which outraged the Kenyan government who called it economic sabotage.
Gration’s departure was met with surprise by the Kenyan government but he was described by analysts as one who was ‘hasty to pull his guns’, gung-ho even.
Kenya was livid with Gration reneged an agreement with them not to have the warning issued. Kenya has been under attack from Somali rebels and these increased insecurity concerns are threatening the tourism industry.
Africa has something of a schizophrenic relationship with the United States.
