Hundreds of children have fallen sick after they were immunised last week it has emerged.
Newsday reported that it had parents calling into its offices telling them that that their kids had fallen ill, vomiting, diarrhoea and all that other unsavoury stuff.
The government launched a campaign to immunise over 2 million children under the age of 5 years last week.
Now this may be alarming it is not uncommon for children to fall sick soon after they are immunisation.
You see the way it works is that a body is injected with a vaccine in the form of a live or weakend version of the virus and then the body produces a resistance, or becomes immune. In essence your body is stimulated to create antibodies without actually getting infected.
It is not uncommon for children to develop a fever after immunisation. Some children even fall ill with the illness that they were being immunised against. While this may be disconcerting, it is simply that the vaccine is at work.
However more radical symptoms may require a visit to the doctor.
