The internet is abuzz with news of pills that are said to be filled with the flesh of foetuses or dead infants, dried then ground into powder.

It is reported that the pills are taken as a disease cure or to boost sexual performance.
The bizarre practice came to light on when South Korean Customs officials said it had recently uncovered multiple attempts to illegally import, in total, more than 17,000 of the capsules in travellers’ luggage or by mail.

Beijing said a previous investigation into similar allegations had uncovered no evidence that such capsules were made in China, but pledged to reopen the investigation.
Experts say the practice stems from a superstitious belief that eating the body parts of young infants will impart special physical strength or cure disease.

The capsules are reported sell for ($35-$44) each at some herbal medicine shops.

This new wave of rumours reminds us of the pictures which circulated on the internet showing people eating what appeared to be human babies . Again our friends the Chinese were fingered as the culprits.

Two things are possible here, either people just enjoy accusing the Chinese of gruesome practises or there could be some element of truth in these rumours.

We will wait for the results of the investigation by Chinese officials but we dont really expect them to say to the whole world -”oh yes by the way our people are in a habit of crushing dead babies and drinking them as pills”
